a recess of wandering

“Make your choice, adventurous Stranger,
Strike the bell and bide the danger,
Or wonder, till it drives you mad,
What would have followed if you had.”
~ C.S. Lewis

if I could sum up the entirety of last week with only three words, it would look something like
                 this...

                 mountains.
                 redbull.
                 country music.

ok, so that's four words, but you get the idea.

the past week of travels with my family encompassed pure bliss, laughter, breathtaking views,
and much needed exploration. our travels took us through tennessee and north carolina -- two
of my most favorite places in the world.

the unique shops of downtown nashville.
                 family visits.
                 treks through the wilderness.
                 spying on a woodchuck.
being filmed for the cmt awards.
recording a song in a professional studio.
visiting the parthenon replica and imagining life in ancient greece.
visiting an old wooden cabin and imagining life as a mountain family in the 1800s.
listening to local bands who haven't "made it" just yet.
being informed through email that I've been accepted to graduate school.
                 coffee shops.
                 old bookstores.
                 old buildings.
                 wonderment.
                 imagination.
                 relaxation.

from a cabin nestled in the high peaks of the tennessee mountains, to sitting and daydreaming
next to a flowing river, every moment of this trip was wonderment.
but my favorite part, by far, was the immensity and beauty of the mountain views. there's just
something very humbling and alluring about standing among mountains, caught up in the midst of
nature. it reminds you of the important things. maybe more so from the perspective of a florida
girl who hardly ever sees mountains.

hello, dear reader. welcome to my 'world'

as the pace of my life finally begins to slow for the first time in a rather long time,
[and just in time for the soon approaching sun-filled days of summer],
I feel it's high time I start to share glimpses of my life through this blog.
and so, without further ado, I give to you...

after sitting at this computer for a rather long while, thinking about what I should type, I've
realized the only thing I can think about at present
                 is the future.
by the end of this week I'll be on a road-trip
                 a road-trip to the mountains.
                 in a van.
                 with my family.
                 my journal.
                 my pen.
                 my camera.
                 my hiking boots.
we'll be gone for five days less than a fortnight.
in between my oohing and aahing of the picturesque scenery I hope to snap a few memories with
                 my camera.
my next blog post will probably benefit from that.

                 --------------------

the first photograph above was taken in an airplane as we flew through the golden clouds resting
in the sky above my homestate, florida. it was a grand adventure. I hope to have many more like
                 it.
the second photograph above was taken of me by my older sister, lauren, in an old bed-and-
                 breakfast by the sea.
